The cornerstone of the functioning of the entire body is the digestive system, and water plays an important part in correct digestion. Digestion supplies the energy for your entire body… and when there’s not enough energy, things stop working correctly.
The stomach requires the proper acidity in order to start the process of digestion. Without enough water, the hydrochloric acid in the stomach is too weak. The small intestine requires alkalinity. In order for that to function properly, the stomach must release food into the small intestine at the proper pH. Then the large intestine requires the food to be acidic once again. This is a delicate balance.
If the body does not have the right amount of water, then it will attempt to make adjustments to systems in the body in order to conserve the water that is there. The results are usually not good… stomach ulcers, constipation, and other ailments.
The human body is mainly water. It only makes sense that the quality of the water you drink is important for proper biochemical functioning in the body. Drinking is the primary way that you get water into the body, and that means that the water you drink must be safe and free of contaminants.
Drinking water doesn’t mean drinking soft drinks, coffee, fruit juices, and other non-water drinks. When you fail to consume enough water, your body will make adjustments to conserve the water that it does have… and usually that means that something will go wrong in the body, like constipation.
The problem we face in our modern culture is that our sources of water like municipal water treatment, private wells, and even bottled water do not end up providing safe water for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
